Danny Williams Needs to STFU
Well well well. It hasn’t been more than five minutes since the Conservatives released their new budget for Newfoundland and Labrador (or more specifically Danny Williams) to start whining again and again. (See my previous post on whining and complaining and why transfer payments are a bad idea in general).

(Hercules knew what to do with greedy people)
Let me be clear, first I am an honorary Newf, being married to one, and having been screeched in and “puffin-ed”, and having been and driven to the Rock more than one time too many. But it never feels like enough.

This time Danny b’y you just need to STFU because oh me nerves, dey got me drove [crazy]. NFLD has been raking it in for years. It sure doesn’t look like it is going to stop any time soon either, me lover.
From Stats Can, Total government transfers to provinces per capita. Well a piccie is worth 10,000 bucks any day:

(Take that Rest of Canada, Click Picture for Larger View)
So its time Danny, me boy, ye stopped complaining and diverting everyone’s attention from your own mistakes regarding how you’re chasing away big oil because you’re starting to do what this guy does.

(I smell sulfur and it ain’t Georgie Boy)
And dat, me b’y, been n’ar good.
Update:
A Newfoundland economist finds that Newfoundland and Labradour do better under the new transfer payments agreement.
Well, given my views on transfer payments to Cape-Breton… I guess we can just consider NFLD to be a larger Cape-Breton.
The thing that always bugs me when someone says something like Danny Williams did, is that I’m not sure what their reasoning is. For example:
“I don’t like what Mr. Harper represents, I don’t like what Conservatives are representing right now in this country,” said Williams, who admitted he hasn’t seen the ads.
Is he just complaining because he can, or does he have a valid point?
This actually reminds me of the Graduate Union here at Mac, where they complain about how the University Administration treats us poorly and doesn’t ‘pay us what we deserve’. Fine. However, when people ask for some numbers that would back up this claim, they’ll be quick to add that ‘numbers don’t matter. It’s respect that we want!’ Well, like it says on the menu at McDonald’s, ’smiles are free’. STFU.

Hah hah. smiles are free.
Honestly I think Danny does a good job of diverting attention away from some of his faults such as really making the oil and gas companies shy away from Newfoundland and Labrador as far as development goes. And you know one really has to screw the pooch to chase away that pack of capitalist dogs.
The whole Cape-Breton thing is something I have been meaning to look into for quite a while since I heard about it after spending some few days out that way. They were talking about independence from the mother province for some crazy reason in regards to getting more money from the feds….

the CPC has been trying to find common ground with Danny and Lorne for months.
I really didn’t know why they were bothering.
I guess they have finally come to the realization that Danny and Lorne don’t want to be happy. They get more from picking a fight than they do with trying to solve anything.
Saskatchewan and Newfoundland, if they didn’t have something to bitch about, they would have to solve their own problems. That’s not even in the index in the Manual for Government in those two places.

Sometimes looking inward is too painful.
Good point.

Actually, Wade Locke’s assessment shows that, while Newfoundland and Labrador will do better under the new equalization plan, had the original ‘promise’ been kept, we would be Five billion dollars better off. That, my friend, is quite a lot of moolah. Hence the fuss over what is seen to be a broken promise - and indeed, according to what PMSH has committed to in the past, it is. I am no ferverent Newfoundland nationalist, and I don’t believe that the Sun Shines out of Danny Williams, unlike many other Newfoundlanders. However I see both sides of this issue - the failure of the NL provincial government to effectively cut costs and stimulate business investment in oil concerns, as well as the broken promises and overbearing attitudes the Fed’s have towards this province since we joined confederation in 1949. I am sure your wife has kept you informed as to both.

@ Griff
Nice to see you here Griff.
Actually Griff from his power point assessment, Wade Locke seems to show that the 50% option turns out to be the best one, even though the 0% option seems more attractive.
While I think the Feds have done damage in all provinces in regards to meddling and inaction, ie: fisheries in BC, Forestry in BC etc. everyone has a beef. Just hang out in AB for a bit. I have spent time in every part of Canada and heard it all.
BUT As can be seen from my mining of the Stats Can data, the truth is in the pudding. NL has done extremely well overall from federal transfers.
So the whining should stop and the minds should open. (Not saying yours is closed)
If NL is your province its high time you folks held Danny to the flame of accountability instead of playing this diversion game. He’s a frigging screw-up.
Also maybe its time people remembered the tea-bagging they have had from the Feds and supported Harper in his apparent attempt to decentralized remove redundancy.
My wife hates taxes of any kind btw. Probably more than me. I am somewhat frivilous with my cash. She’ll fight over a quarter.

Interesting to see you Cons try and justify the Harpy equalization scam - which is as bad as the Liebral equalization scam - and lies.
Does that chart showing how little Ontario (and Quebec) receive include the billions in federal government purchases of goods and services from Quebec and Ontario?
Comment by Cons suck — April 6, 2007 @ 3:35 pm
Cons suck says???You certainly have nothing to say.The Conservatives certainly dont have to justify anything to idiots.Just keep taking the money and STFU.
Comment by bert — April 6, 2007 @ 5:40 pm
@ Cons suck.
Yes indeed it does include purchases of services and goods including from Alberta.
Look buddy. I’m not particularly on the Cons side on this one. As I said before, we should not have any transfer payments. So a big STFU to the Cons, Libs and NDP.
Comment by langmann — April 6, 2007 @ 7:36 pm
Good comeback Bert. The cons can’t justify things to idiots because their equalization reform is unjustifiable, and being as they, and you, are idiots, they really aren’t capable of justifying it even if were justifiable.
This is why the best you can do is type STFU.
Comment by Cons suck — April 6, 2007 @ 7:45 pm
How much more federal spending on goods and services goes to Ontario and Quebec than the other provinces? It really is annoying to hear Ontario people complain about Equalization, or about Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan complaining about Harper’s lying on equalization reform.
Comment by Cons suck — April 6, 2007 @ 7:47 pm
@ Cons,
Look at the numbers on the graph. They’re from stats-can so I doubt any tories had anything to do with it.
I don’t want to call you stupid, but maybe you’re blind. Newfoundland and Labrador is living off the work of other people and getting more than their fair share. Think about it. Why does anyone deserve anything? Its not a right, so be grateful.
Comment by langmann — April 6, 2007 @ 9:10 pm
Memorial University economist Wade Locke - one of the province’s leading experts on offshore revenue deals did some number crunching and has concluded that Newfoundland and Labrador would receive $5.6 billion more than what they would receive under the Atlantic Accord if they accept the new equalization formula.

The irony! Premier Danny Williams, who has failed to keep many of his promises accusing the Prime Minister of shafting Newfoundland and Labrador by breaking a promise.
